鈥淓arthworms and their balls of calcite鈥
We鈥檙e all familiar with the common earthworm but it is not well known that many earthworms secrete tiny balls of calcium carbonate into the soil. In this talk, Mark will discuss what forms of calcium carbonate these balls are made of and why the materials science industry might be interested in them. Mark will also talk about the role of these balls in the cycling of elements through the soil and how the balls can even be used to tell us about past climates.
