Scientific and Technical Writing

18 February 2025 13:30-16:30

Introduction
This course aims to help scientists, and others who need to write scientific or technical content, to tailor their writing to an appropriate 鈥渟cientific register鈥. It will focus primarily on scientific and technical reports within business and industry, academic theses and journal articles. Specific features common to scientific, technical and academic writing will be discussed, along with which features to avoid. Practical advice will be given on structuring and writing reports and theses, including other helpful hints and tips. Additional aspects regarding graphics, experimental data, referencing, proof-reading and the journal submission processes will also be covered. Other formats requiring some scientific or technical content will also be covered briefly.

This course will be delivered online in one live 3 hour session.

There will be scope for both planned and spontaneous interaction (Q&A), and slides will be leavened with visuals and apposite quotations.

Tuesday 18th March 2025 | 1.30 鈥 4.30pm GMT (UK Time)
