Biography

Amit Kumar is a UKRI Future Leaders Fellow (equivalent to Associate Professor/Reader) in the School of ¾ÅÖÝÓ°Ôº at the University of St Andrews, UK.

He completed his DPhil (2012–2016) as a Rhodes Scholar at the University of Oxford under the supervision of Prof. Andrew Weller, where his research focused on synthetic organometallic chemistry and homogeneous catalysis. Following his doctoral studies, Amit undertook postdoctoral research in green homogeneous catalysis in the group of Prof. David Milstein at the Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel (2016–2019), supported by prestigious national fellowships.

Amit joined the University of St Andrews in 2020 as a Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellow and was awarded a UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship in 2022. He currently leads a research group specialising in organometallic catalysis to address key challenges in the circular economy, including the synthesis of renewable polymers, plastic recycling, COâ‚‚ capture and utilisation, and the development of polymeric binders for batteries. His contributions were recently recognised with the ¾ÅÖÝӰԺ’s 2025 Harrison–Meldola Early Career Prize in ¾ÅÖÝÓ°Ôº.
