Biography
Astrid Avellan is a research scientist at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), at the Geosciences Environment Toulouse (GET) laboratory. She received her PhD in environmental geosciences from Aix-Marseille University (CEREGE, France) and has held research positions at Carnegie Mellon University (USA) and the University of Aveiro (Portugal).
Her research explores the nano–bio interfaces that control contaminant reactivity, focusing on the chemical processes that govern their persistence, transport, and bioavailability across environmental and biological systems. She develops interdisciplinary approaches to investigate contaminant dynamics in complex environmental and biological systems. The knowledge generated through this work informs solutions to anticipate and mitigate the ecological impacts of industrial human activities.
