Biography

I was born in Surabaya, Indonesia and moved to Singapore to complete my high school education when I was 14. I received my B.A. degree from Columbia University in 2008, and earned my Ph.D. from The Scripps Research Institute in 2013 under the guidance of Professor Phil S. Baran. After postdoctoral studies with Professor Frances H. Arnold at the California Institute of Technology, I started my independent career at The Scripps Research Institute (Florida) in 2016. In July 2022, I took a position at Rice University as a Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) scholar.

My group’s research foci are on enzyme catalysis, natural product chemistry and chemical biology. We are interested in the discovery and engineering of novel enzymes from natural product biosyntheses and in the development of chemoenzymatic strategies to prepare complex, bioactive natural products, as well as analogs for functional studies.
