Séverine Le Gac

Biography
S茅verine Le Gac is professor at the University of Twente, the Netherlands. She graduated from the ESPCI (Paris, France) and received her M.Sc degree from the National Museum of Natural History, both in 2000. She obtained her Ph.D. in life sciences cum laude from the University of Lille (France). After a 2-month stay in Tokushima (Japan), she joined the University of Twente, as a post-doctoral fellow. In 2008, she was offered a tenure-track position in the same university, and got tenure in 2013. In 2012 she was appointed program director at the MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology for the strategic research orientation 鈥淣anoMedicine鈥�.
Prof. S茅verine Le Gac is leading a research group Applied Microfluidics for BioEngineering Research (AMBER), which is part of the MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology and TechMed Centre. She is part of the director board of the Chemical and Biological Microsystem Society (CBMS), of which she is the vice-president from October 2021. Her research interests focus on the use of microfluidic and organ-on-chip devices for biological and medical applications, including cancer research and assisted reproductive technologies.
Her award and honors include a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) fellowship in 2004, the PhD prize of the French Society for Mass Spectrometry in 2005, a Grant Fertility Innovation from Merck Serono in 2011, a University of Twente Aspasia award (2011) for top female researchers and the De Winter prize (2014) for outstanding female researchers at the University of Twente.
