Course overview

This course will detail the fundamental aspects that are required to fully understand GC. We will focus on the theory of GC and the fundamental mechanisms that result in chromatographic separation. All aspects of the technology and system are covered - from gas supplies, through sample introduction and column chemistries, to an overview of common detector types. The main focus is on fundamental concepts, but important practical aspects and some basic troubleshooting will also be introduced. All of this will aid in day to day good practice and troubleshooting.

• Split Injection
• Splitless Injection
• Other Sampling Techniques
• Band Broadening

Session 3 | Runtime - 70 min

• Stationary Phase Interactions
• Stationary Phase Selection
• Column Dimensions
• Temperature Programming

Session 4 | Runtime - 70 min

• Detectors
• Flame Ionization Detector
• Nitrogen Phosphorus Detector
• Electron Capture Detector
• Thermal Conductivity Detector

Each video session is accompanied by supporting modules from CHROMacademy and we will use the animations within CHROMacademy to clearly illustrate the science and processes that are being discussed. All four sessions should be completed in order to gain the full training. The final assessment must be completed in order to gain your certificate of completion.

Prerequisites

This course has been designed for novice HPLC users and those who have limited experience of HPLC operation. Everyone is welcome!
