Micropipette dropping liquid into test tubes

This course provides an introduction to gas chromatography and an overview of the analytes and samples analysed using the technique, looking at the basics of separation, providing an overview of the GC system and the chromatogram.

The course covers gases and plumbing in gas chromatography and looks in detail at the types of carrier gases, detector gases and cooling gases used. The course then looks at the gas supply; how gases are plumbed into the GC; the reasons to use gas purifiers and the types available; and how the gas flow and pressure is controlled.

The course goes on to cover the various sample introduction techniques in detail, including their theory, parameters and applications. Different injection techniques are looked at such as split, splitless, on-column, and types of large volume injection techniques.

This course combines modules 1, 2 and 3 of the Virtual Classroom Training: Practical Essentials of GC & GC-MS (total 19.25 hours) and the Virtual Classroom Training: Complete GC & GC-MS (total 32 hours).

Prerequisites

This course is for those who have a basic knowledge of gas chromatography and would like to greatly enhance it. Beginners should attend the Absolute Basics first.
