About this certificate
- This award is presented annually, with nominations open from February-June and prizes sent on a rolling basis
- Each participating institution can present two students with the award each year
- Each awardee will receive:
- Digital and paper copies of their Certificate of Undergraduate Excellence
- An invitation to join in publishing training provided by RSC Advances executive editor, Dr. Laura Fisher, including an endorsed certificate of completion
- RSC Affiliate membership or an RSC Books prize.
Please note that if an institution nominates one student, they will receive RSC Affiliate membership OR an RSC book. If an institution nominates two students, one will receive RSC Affiliate membership and the other will receive an RSC book.

Forensic science is often important in criminal cases, so criminal justice professionals must have a basic understanding of complex science. This book explains the science underpinning forensic techniques to give readers the knowledge to understand and use forensic science effectively. Using international case studies and the author’s personal journey, this book brings the practice of forensic science to life.
Publishing Training
All awardees will receive an invitation to attend a virtual publishing training hosted by the editors of RSC journals. This workshop is an opportunity to learn about scientific publishing from experts in the field and will benefit students in the next steps of their professional journey, as publishing is a cornerstone of many scientific careers.
In 2025, the workshop will be hosted by Dr. Laura Fisher, the executive editor of RSC Advances, the largest gold Open Access journal dedicated to the chemical sciences. Students who participate will receive a signed certificate of completion to demonstrate their publishing knowledge and to support their futures in science.
This training will be conducted in the Fall after the award period closes.

If your institution is not registered and you wish to participate in the next award cycle, please provide your details.
Who can be nominated
Departments are encouraged to nominate their most outstanding students for the award, including those who:
- Are within the top 5-10% of their class in subject-specific and overall coursework
- Participate and excel in undergraduate research projects
- Have taken on leadership roles in their department and community
- Persevered in their program despite facing significant challenges
We recognise that there are significant challenges with inclusion and diversity in the chemical sciences and the importance of valuing all members of our community. We believe chemistry is for everyone and we have a responsibility to promote inclusivity and accessibility to improve diversity. We want to encourage institutions to consider nominating candidates of all genders, races, and backgrounds when selecting recipients.

To nominate a candidate, please fill in the form below and provide details of the following:
- Excellence in coursework (e.g. GPA, class ranking, etc.)
- Any projects they participate in and details of research they excel in
- Any leadership roles in their department and community
- Any significant challenges they have faced but have persevered through
