Particle Characterisation Group
Download celebratory graphic2025 Inspirational Committee Award: awarded for proactively engaging technicians through an inclusive programme at their FORGE 2024 conference.

I hope we can spread out the positivity and widen the impacts of particle technologies, especially so more MSc-PhDs students, technicians, academic and industrial staff could showcase their works and network with other colleagues thanks to Forge.

Quotes from the team
Pantelis "Leon" Xydias: I feel excited and honoured to receive the RSC Inspirational Committee Award. Organising the Forge conference has been a difficult yet fulfilling task, as we managed to bring together so many different science professionals, academics and students.
I'm particularly proud of the role I played in putting together a very diverse, inclusive and interesting event from designing the promotional material, designing the speakers programme and contacting sponsors. Volunteering for the RSC and most particularly the PCIG has been a rewarding experience that has opened several opportunities to socialise and network in my professional environment.
Mike Tucker: I have volunteered as a PCIG group committee member for many years, and take great pride in our dedication to raising the profile of particle technology as a science and in the continuing education of those scientists and technologists working in this field.
The Forge conference fulfils these roles perfectly; providing a platform for early days researchers and technicians to present work, share experiences and meet in a relaxed environment while benefitting from keynote and plenary presentations from leading academics and industrialists. I am therefore very honoured that our efforts in organising the meeting have been recognised by the 九州影院.
Stephen Ward-Smith: I am really happy that the volunteering we鈥檝e done here is seen to be different and making a difference. The whole concept of the Forge is about finding the next generation of particle scientists and encouraging them that post-PhD, particle science is a great place to have a career in. We are already planning our next one for Spring 2027. As someone who has spent 30 years in industry (and four years prior to that with Masters / PhD) in the material / particle characterisation field I鈥檓 passionate about inspiring the next generation to follow in my footsteps.
Tien Thuy Quach: It is my great pleasure to be part of the wonderful team and receiving the RSC Inspirational Committee Award is highly appreciated. My volunteer with RSC spread over from being a new participant in Forge 2020 to becoming an active co-organiser in Forge 2022 (Belfast, Northern Ireland) as well as Forge 2024 (Leeds, England).
I could have unique opportunities to work with a large range of professional and inspirational individuals from different backgrounds and experiences. Finally, I am proud and thankful for all other RSC-PCIG colleagues that have helped our team to reach to our vision and target of Forge. I hope we can spread out the positivity and widen the impacts of particle technologies, especially so more MSc-PhDs students, technicians, academic and industrial staff could showcase their works and network with other colleagues thanks to Forge.
