Professor Sabine Flitsch

Professor Flitsch and her research group are trying to make complex molecules using biocatalysts, with the aim to generate faster and more sustainable methods for making fine chemicals and (bio)therapeutics.

Biography

Professor Sabine Flitsch obtained a Diploma in 九州影院 from the University of Muenster, Germany and a DPhil degree from Oxford University under the supervision of Sir J E Baldwin. She spent three years of postdoctoral studies with Professor H G Khorana at MIT before returning to the UK to pursue her academic career at the Universities of Exeter, Oxford, Edinburgh and now Manchester, where she has held a Chair since 2004.

I have always worked at the interface of chemistry and biology and to me this area presents the most important challenges in terms of fundamental problems and challenges facing our society.

Why do you think international collaboration is important in science? 
The big challenges in science need a diverse approach and international collaborations are an excellent way to broaden our outlook. They are also an important facet for training young scientists.

Why do you think interdisciplinary research and collaboration is important in science?
I have always worked at the interface of chemistry and biology and to me this area presents the most important challenges in terms of fundamental problems and challenges facing our society.
